$199 Millennius Pocketeye A Basic Camcorder

The Millennius Pocketeye Full HD is a very basic camcorder that records videos in Full HD. The form factor and price is its main selling points, but do not expect much in terms of advanced features.

This pocket camcorder comes in white/bronze and is made out of hard plastic. It is not as well-constructed as other handheld camcorders in the market, so it should be kept safe inside the pouch when not in use.

The Pocketeye’s SD card slot is located on top of the unit beside the macro switch, while the record/stop button, mode button, zoom in/out, enter button, HDMI output, and USB/AV output are located at the back. The power button, menu button, playback button, and battery (hidden underneath the cover) can be found inside the camera, next to the adjustable LCD screen.

A user needs to press the mode button two times in order to adjust the camcorder’s settings. The following can be adjusted on the menu – Date/Time, Beep (On/Off), Auto Power Off (Off, 1 min, 5 min), TV Standard (PAL/NTSC), Format (Memory card), Default, Language, and Frequency (60Hz, 50Hz).

The unit has a basic interface and only offers a handful of advanced features. The screen displays what mode it is currently on, which functions are enabled, the native shooting resolution, battery life, and how much memory is left. Pressing the green up/down icons on the screen adjusts the exposure, while pressing any of the icons below brings up the shooting menu.

From here, a user can change the white balance, adjust the shooting resolution (QVGA to 1080p), change the shooting effect (normal, black and white, and sepia), enable night mode, or change the quality.

The digital zoom is disabled if you are shooting at the highest resolution (1080p), which means that users need to go near a subject. Footage taken outdoors were nothing to write home about, so don’t expect to get the best Full HD videos. Videos taken at night (with ‘Night mode’ and LED turned on) had a lot of noise but were still viewable.

In order to take a photo, a user must press the ‘Mode’ button found below the record button. Pictures taken were not as good as standalone cameras, but are still social-network website worthy. Users can adjust the white balance, resolution (3MP, 5MP, and 12MP), effect, self-timer, and adjust the photo quality.

Overall, the Millenius Pocketeye camcorder is for users who want to shoot Full HD videos at an affordable price. It doesn’t offer a lot of advanced features, so users who want more should look at other products that the company offers (such as the Memmoir Gold). The Millennius Pocketeye is available now for $199 at millenius.com.au.
