83 percent of consumers do not back up their data despite knowing that it is important, according to a micro study by Acronis. In a move to promote their backup, recovery and security solutions business, Acronis surveyed 440 people to find that while many consumers fear the prospect of their PC crashing, their laptop being stolen or getting a virus, they still don’t back up their data.
Acronis provides services in physical data storage and cloud forms, while other companies like Google are moving toward complete cloud computing, for example the almost completely cloud-operated Google Chrome OS that is in development.
While cloud computing offers part of a solution to data back-up, failures in cloud computing service providers in the past like past power outages at Amazon Web Services, for example, prove that physical data back-up from consumers is still a necessity to ensure data security.
