Amazon, who told ChannelNews at CES they are looking to increase sales from Australian consumers in 2013, has developed an HTML 5 mobile web site that allows owners of Apple products to download songs from their music catalogue. They claim that owners an iPod Touch or iPhone can now use the devices to purchase music from Amazon’s new MP3 store which offers more than 22 million songs in the U.S.
All songs are DRM-free MP3-format files priced as low as 69 cents each. The songs play back on any MP3-equipped device.
Amazon said consumers will be able to use their Apple device’s Safari browser to make purchases at Amazon.com/MP3. Music purchases are automatically saved to the user’s Cloud Player library for downloading or streaming to any iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Kindle Fire, Android phone or tablet, or for streaming through a Roku home device, Sonos wireless multi-room-audio system, or any web browser.
Since the Amazon Cloud Player app for iPhone and iPod Touch was launched, “a top request from customers has been the ability to buy music from Amazon right from their devices,” said Amazon Music VP Steve Boom. “For the first time ever, iOS users have a way do that.”
