Court To Hear Samsung vs Apple

WASHINGTON – Samsung has asked the US Supreme Court to hear an appeal of its long-running feud with Apple, in a bid to overturn a 2012 jury verdict that found the company liable for infringing patents on Apple’s iPhone and ordering Samsung to pay US$930 million.
Samsung wants the court to review rulings concerning “design patents” that cover the look-and-feel of a product. A federal appeals court in Washington largely upheld the verdicts on three Apple design patents earlier this year.

Samsung argues that the lower courts misapplied the laws, which it says are meant to protect “ornamental” features that aren’t part of a product’s function.
