Netflix has reportedly started blocking some Australian customers from accessing non-Australian content, having last week announced that it is taking steps to prevent members using proxies to access titles available outside of their region.uFlix, a service that allows Netflix users to access content from outside their region, has reported that some users are starting to have issues with Netflix blocking non-Australian content.
uFlix stated the error users will receive while trying to stream content will be:
“You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again.”
Netflix vice president of content delivery architecture David Fullagar last week wrote via a blog post that, with proxies or “unblockers” being used by some members to access titles available outside their territory, Netflix is employing “the same or similar measures other firms do”.
“This technology continues to evolve and we are evolving with it,” Fullagar wrote.
“That means in coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are. We are confident this change won’t impact members not using proxies.”
The announcement had come in the wake of the streaming giant launching in 130 new countries, with Netflix having made the announcement at CES 2016.
uFlix stated that while blocking of non-Australian content was only affecting a few users, it expects numbers to grow, stating that it is “working on a solution to get around these new measures”.
