Qantas has partnered with Start VR to build a virtual reality mobile application to allow top-end passengers to explore iconic Australian destinations on screen. The VR app pilot has been rolled out in first-class
lounges in Sydney and Melbourne via 14 Samsung Gear VR headsets. The headsets
let travellers take virtual tours and watch movies in 3D.
The app can be used in two modes: 3D split screen for compatible headsets or Google
Cardboard; and 2D landscape on a smartphone.
Itall integrates with Qantas’s booking system to allow top-paying travellers to
book a flight directly from the application.
The app runs on the proprietary Startgate VR publishing platform developed by Sydney-based
Start VR.
