Dolby Laboratories announced that the web development tool Adobe AIR 3 will support Dolby Digital Plus for delivering high quality surround sound to connected devices like TVs and set-top boxes.
With the AIR web development tool supporting high definition video, Dolby’s sound expertise lends a hand to developers seeking to capitalise on HD content streaming from mobile devices without skimping on quality.
“Media companies and content distributors can leverage AIR to deliver and monetise premium video applications with pristine sound while consumers can enjoy HD video paired with HD audio delivered directly to the TV,” said Adobe’s Group Product Manager, Florian Pestoni.
Adobe AIR is a tool for web developers to code applications across operating systems with existing coding languages.
Adobe posted up the released the development kit for AIR 3 last month with a focus on app development across mobile platforms and outside of web browsers, as well as improved high definition video support across devices.
Dolby’s announcement means that content aggregators will now be able to create Flash-based apps that deliver HD video as well as multi-channel surround sound (up to 7.1) in seamless streams to connected devices.
