Pentax who is struggling to get traction in the digital camera market has announced a new K30 DSLR days after showing off their “toy like” new mirrorless camera in Australia.The Japanese Company who recently launched their bulky new mirrorless camera, the K-01, in an effort to compete with new offerings from Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic and Samsung is now set to roll out a K-30 which the Company claims has features normally found in a high end digital camera.
Featuring a 16.2 million pixel CMOS sensor and a PRIME M image processor, which enables the K-30 to shoot full HD video at 30fps the new camera has a wide sensitivity range of between ISO 100 and ISO 12,800 (expandable up to ISO 25,600).
When Pentax showed their new K-01 at the recent Sydney Fashion Week several journalists including myself found the device bulky, big and a tad over designed.
Engadget described the new camera as feeling cheap and having a blatant toy-like appearance with its bright yellow facia.

The new K-30 features a Pentax designed Natural-Bright-Matte III focusing screen to assist with manual focusing. Pentax claims that the K-30’s SAFOX IXi+ autofocusing module is “state-of-the-art” and that it is designed for high-precision autofocusing and responsiveness. Nine of the 11 AF points are cross type sensors, while the AF algorithm has been updated in all areas.

A high speed shooting function allows for shooting at up to 6fps (in JPEG format only). Other features include Live View at 60fps with a focus-assist function to improve precision when manual-focusing, Auto Picture and Scene modes and Pentax’s own Shake Reduction mechanism.
It is not known when the new K-30 will be launched in Australia.
