Android Clash: HTC WildFire Bid To Outrun Galaxy II

A bitter fight between Android smartphone manufacturers has seen Samsung gazumped days out from launch of its Galaxy S 2.

The long awaited release of Galaxy S II running on Android Gingerbread 2.3, is to be launched to media in Australia next Thursday May 26th before its public release later in the month.

The high powered Galaxy update will boast a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with faster download speeds and longer battery life and its Super AMOLED Plus screen the largest, brightest and most colourful screen the Korean brand has created.

The skinnier, lighter (116g) Galaxy is tipped to be available across multiple carriers.

However, HTC have now sought to out run Galaxy S Gingerbread debut by running to release its high-end HTC Desire S and Wildfire S handsets on Android 2.4 one day prior on Wednesday 25th.

The newer 2.4 Android version promises more support for multicore processors and capitalises on high powered devices.

Desire S has a 3.7-inch WVGA display, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor and similar to its previous model will sport a unibody aluminum design.

Its Wildfire S is tipped to be the smallest smartphones with a 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen upgraded from QVGA previously and 5 MP camera.

Both newbies are being launched on Telstra’s Next G.

So a coincidence, or are HTC going after Galaxy with all guns blazing?

“It’s pure coincidence,” an HTC spokesperson told Channel News today and insists the event was planned “about a month and a half ago,” and that they found out about Samsung’s launch only on Monday.

However, Samsung released the media launch date around two to three weeks ago, so HTC should have been aware of it.

Samsung are also keen to quell any friciton saying the proximity of the launches is also just coincidence.

Hmm, we’re not so sure but stay tuned next week to see if Galaxy S II or HTC’s model light our fire.
