Angry Birds, one of the most successful games ever launched by Rovio for the smartphone platform, is to be launched on Xbox, PS3 and Wii consoles.
Rovio chief executive, Peter Vesterbacka, told the BBC that this kind of switch will become more and more common as the smartphone gaming platform beats traditional games on consoles and PCs.
Angry Birds, which was originally built for the iPhone, has been downloaded 36 million times by people using Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android operating system. Last October, when it was released for the Android OS, it was downloaded one million times in just 24 hours.
The Angry Birds game is a puzzle featuring a variety of birds, all with different skills, trying to rescue their eggs from evil pigs. The birds are catapulted at different structures where the pigs are hiding, using a slingshot.
Vesterbacka said the new version of the game will be launched sometime next year, and also revealed that there will be an Angry Birds 2 in which the pigs would play more of a role.
