ANZ Says Sorry For System Crash

A red-faced ANZ Bank has apologised and pledged to recompense customers who are out of pocket after its new Internet banking service crashed on Monday, its first day of public operation.

Customers were unable to access their accounts for much of Monday when the Internet banking service crashed, prompting embarrassment for the bank and angry sprays across its Facebook and Twitter pages.

“Our Internet banking site experienced some technical issues yesterday and was offline while we worked to fix the issue,” an ANZ spokesperson said, adding: “We would like to apologise for the inconvenience this caused.”

The bank said services had been restored and were running normally yesterday but that anyone who felt they missed out by being unable to make payments should contact them. Personal banking customers are now on the new system, but ANZ’s 10,000 business customers have been put back on the old interface for the time being.
