Apple Inject MacBook Pro Line Up With Heavy Duty Gear

Apple has upped the performance of its MacBook Pro range with several new key innards, including faster CPUs and graphic capabilities.

In particular, the company’s 13 inch MacBook Pro benefits from new, superior internals, with either a 2.4GHz dual core i5 or a 2.8GHz dual-core i7 processor. Joining upgraded processors are upped hard drives, with the stock options sitting at 500GB and 750GB respectively. Similarly, Apple’s 15 inch series has also earned itself some new performance enhancements, with the basic model scoring a quad-core 2.2 GHz i7 processor and an optional 2.4GHz equivalent upgrade. Although the quad-core 2.4GHz i7 processor has found its way as standard in Apple’s 17″ Pro line up.

Graphics have been overhauled with the 15 inch MacBook Pro equipped with an AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics card and 512MB of GDDR5, which Apple claims makes this MacBook Pro gen “up to 2x faster than those in previous models.” The quicker Pro has also gained upgrades that put its graphics card on par with its 17 inch sibling, inheriting an AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 1GB of GDDR5.

The final addition is a thunderbolt I/O port, which will transmit data “20 times faster than a USB 2.0.” A joint collaboration between Apple and Intel, it’s capable of transferring data at 10Gbps in each direction at the same time.

Unlike Apple, the fanfare akin to such an upgrade is missing with only an immodest pitch found on its website: State-of-the-art processors. All-new graphics. Breakthrough high-speeds I/O. Three very big leaps forward. Considering the iPhone 4S benefitted from a similar upgrade alone, you’d expect a little more commotion.

The upgraded 13 inch MacBook pro has a starting RRP of $1,399 with the range currently available.
