BREAKING NEWS: Apple, who took action in Australia to ban the Samsung Galaxy Tablet, has now sought a ban on the Korean Company’s brand new Galaxy S3. Samsung has also been taken to Court by the Australian Patents Office.Earlier today Apple filed a lawsuit in the U.S. requesting a sales ban on Samsung’s new phone which is proving a hit for carriers in Australia.
Apple claims that Samsung has infringed on Apple’s user interface patents.
The latest legal action comes just a few weeks after the chief executive of Apple Tim Cook met in the USA with the head of Samsing in a court session aimed at settling their smartphone patent war, which was initiated by Apple in April last year. The Wall Stret Journal said that Apple and Samsung have been entangled in about 30 patent litigation suits in 10 different countries so far.

In Australia, a case of Samsung Vs the Australian patents office was filed in the Federal Court on May the 22nd. Court documents also reveal that Apple filed a notice of objection to competency in the case. It is not known what Apple is objecting to.
In a statement issued earlier today Samsung said it “believes Apple’s request is without merit.” They pledged to “vigorously oppose the request and demonstrate to the court that the Galaxy S III is innovative and distinctive”.
Samsung plans to continue with the global launch of the new phone including in the USA.
Seoul-based Apple spokesman Steve Park maintained the company’s previous stance and said: “It is no coincidence that Samsung’s latest products look a lot like the iPhone and the iPad devices, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging. This kind of blatant copying is wrong and we need to protect the Apple’s intellectual property when companies steal our ideas.”
