Ban Lifted On Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The low-cost Galaxy Nexus phone at the centre of a patent dispute between Apple and Samsung after a week of being banned from sale, is now cleared to be sold again, in the US at least.

Last week, US District Court Judge Lucy Koh ruled that Apple was likely to prove that the Galaxy Nexus infringed on four of its patents and issued an injunction banning US sales of the device (CDN, Thursday).

Samsung appealed that ruling to the Federal Appeals Court, which temporarily put the lower court ban on hold, allowing its sale in the US for the time being. Apple now has until this Thursday to argue why the ban should continue

– Meanwhile, Samsung has also unveiled a smartphone aimed the low end of the market where it will take on the increasingly troubled Nokia. The Galaxy Chat features a 3-inch QVGA touch-screen and a dedicated qwerty keyboard reminiscent of older Blackberry models.

It will launch at a “competitive pricepoint”, the company says.
