2K Games has set a date for the reprisal of 2007’s The Darkness video game, with The Darkness II set for October 7.

The sequel to the graphic first person shooter is currently under development by Digital Extremes rather than the original creators of the game, Starbreeze.
Rather than going back to the smaller developer which has produced titles like the Chronicles of Riddick saga, 2K has opted for Digital Extremes to create the sequel to The Darkness on the back of the original’s success.
This bigger studio holds gaming heavyweights on its repertoire like the BioShock games and the original Unreal games (the first games to be built on the original Unreal Engine that now in its third stage runs some of the most popular games available).
On the game itself, the general plot that is revealed from the just-released trailer takes place two years after that of The Darkness. After two years, the ‘creeping dark’ (a key ‘weapon’ from the game) is nagging at the protagonist to be unleashed as it was in the first game. This was part of what got the original game banned in Singapore “for excessive violence and religiously offensive expletives.”
The Darkness II will be available from October 7 on PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
