Do More With Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1 combines a high resolution 10.1 inch screen with Samsung’s leading S Pen stylus to expand what can be done with a tablet computer. It’s powered by the same Quad-Core processor found in the popular S3 smartphone, but has double the RAM at 2GB. The added oomph helps the Note 10.1 alternate between more applications without straining.

And that’s a good thing, especially when you consider the Note 10.1 runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0). Enhanced by Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, the Android operating system takes advantage of the Note’s supreme hardware and offers customers incredible support with 500,000 applications available for download from the Google Play store. It’ll also inherit more features when Samsung release a free Jelly Bean update.

Samsung has gone one step further by equipping the Note 10.1 with a variety of proprietary applications. The Company’s S-Pad app looks particularly impressive as it combines notes and sketches with other digital ready-to-use templates. Using the stylus to draw a table upon a grid will see a user’s wavy line ironed out into a straight one. It does the same thing when writing a formula or text, converting illegible scribble into digitised text.

It has the ability to divide the screen into two so applications can be displayed alongside one another. This side-by-side multitasking makes work more efficient and even facilitates dragging content from one app to the other without having to put the S-Pen down.

The Note 10.1 can be setup to recognise when the S-Pen has been pulled out and launch an application of choice instantly. The S-Pen is capable of recognising more than 1,000 different levels of pressure and, as a result, the pictures you draw retain the same sense of shading, line thickness and precision found from an old school pencil. Writing has never been easier.

The Smart Stay feature initially found on the Galaxy S3 also finds its way on Samsung’s flagship tablet. Its front facing cam seeks to maintain eye contact and keeps the screen bright while you are looking directly at it. This avoids the Note 10.1 from entering standby when it’s still in use.

On the rare occasion you’d like to take a photo with this tablet, rest assured the Note 10.1 will rise to the occasion. It has a 5MP rear camera capable of Full HD video recording at 30fps, along with a front facing 1.9MP camera which can be used by videoconferencing applications.

By preloading the Note 10.1 with Samsung’s AllShare Play app and equipping it with DLNA technology, users can share their photos, pictures, music, movies and videos with other compatible Samsung devices.

The introductory WiFi version of the Galaxy Note 10.1 comes with 16GB of internal memory and a recommended retail price of $589. A 32GB version is available and according to Samsung, a 3G version will be released in the near future.
