Fiddler Gerry Harvey & Myer Donate $750,000 To QLD Flood Fund

Gerry Harvey the chairman of the Harvey Norman Group along with the Myer retail store has kicked in $750,000 to a Queensland Flood Relief Fund.It was only last week that Gerry Harvey was being criticised by the Queensland media after being photographed playing a fiddle and partying at a Gold Coast Magic Millions event as tens of thousands of his customers were seeing their homes swamped or washed away by floods.

Harvey and his CEO wife Katy Page turned up at a “Mates in Need” Street Party at Main Beach on the Gold Coast where Gerry and his wife worked the crowd raising money. More than $1,000,000 was raised at the Friday night event.

The Gold Coast Bulletin said that it It was just last week the idea of a street party was conceived, but on Friday the street was filled with entertainers, singers and food stalls.

Myer and Harvey Norman kicked off the fundraiser with a $750,000 donation.

Katie Page-Harvey, the CEO of the Harvey Norman Group, who grew up in St George and Rockhampton and lived in Brisbane during the 1974 flood, said watching the horrific events of the past week bought back so many memories she wanted to help.

”People need cash,” she said.

”They have no idea what they are going to come home to: mud up the walls, everything ruined and a stench that lingers for such a long time after the water recedes,” she told the Bulletin.
