Windows Phone 7 Now Running On Old HTC HD2

A Chinese group has done what Microsoft and HTC should have done in Australia by getting Windows Phone 7 to run on the HTC HD2.

It’s not legal, but according to a Chinese forum a lot of people are taking up the new OS on their old HD2 which was released in Australia less than 12 months out from Microsoft launching their new Windows Phone 7.

For Telstra customers who took out a 24 month contract on the old “suck juice” Windows Phone OS they have up to 12 months to wait before they can get access to a new Windows based phone.

The Chinese forum said that they figured out how to get a fully functioning version of Windows Phone 7 working on the HTC HD2.

Tech Radar in the UK said that the HD2 was the last HTC handset to run the old Windows Mobile OS which, even with HTC’s excellent Sense UI on top of it, had a number of niggling problems that left their reviewer cold.

Several HD2 users on the XDA Developer forum have reported successfully installing the new Windows Phone 7 onto the HD2 without any problems.

This includes functioning services like the Zune media app, Zune PC and Mac clients, Xbox Live and the app marketplace said Tech Radar.
