FTC Probes Apple Streaming

Apple’s music streaming service is under fire again. First it was lobbying by Taylor Swift and her massive fan base for better pay for artists; now it’s US government antitrust regulators probing the Apple Music service’s legitimacy.

The Federal Trade Commission is looking into claims that Apple’s treatment of rival streaming music apps is illegal under antitrust law.

Apple Music provides an App Store platform for competing streaming services, including Jango, Spotify, Rhapsody and others.

The sticking point appears to be the 30 percent cut Apple takes from all in-app purchases for digital goods sold on its platform, including music streaming subscriptions and games.
