Google Upsizes Nexus Tablet As Apple iPad Goes Mini

Google is not taking Apple’s iPad Mini launch lying down. No, no, no. Instead, the company is teaming up with Samsung to release an impressive 10.1 inch tablet called the Nexus 10.

The Nexus 10 was expected to be revealed at a launch event on Monday in New York, but the event has been cancelled after a state of emergency was issued due to the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.

Instead we have to rely on leaked images sourced by GSMArena, which showcase a 10.1 tablet running version 4.2 of Android.

It’s the screen that impresses most. The 10.1 inch panel houses a resolution of 2,560×1,600, giving it a pixel density of 299ppi. That’s not only superior to Apple’s iPad; it’s a higher resolution than Apple’s 27 inch iMac computer.

Unlike the quadcore Nexus 7, the 10.1 tablet features Samsung’s new Exynos 5250 chipset, whose two Cortex A15 cores are clocked at 1.7GHz. Unsubstantiated reports claim the new silicon has achieved better benchmark scores than Qualcomm’s quadcore Snapdragon S4 Pro and Apple’s custom A6.

In addition to the chipset is a new Mali T604 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. There is a 5MP camera on the back, a front-facing camera and a suite of connectivity options.

Samsung’s DNA is visible in the Nexus 10, adopting the front facing speakers that characterise the Galaxy Note 10.1, but this tab has, what appears to be, metal casing.

Below is a leaked video of the Nexus 10, albeit a short one.

Google has yet to announce a new launch date for their alleged tab. Also expected to be unveiled at the event is a LG smartphone unofficially named the Nexus 4. Check it out below.
