iPhone 5, Samsung S 3 Like Getting Wet

A new breed of smarties are to enjoy water pursuits – without even getting wet.

Waterproofing guru P2i has revealed several of the” fruity companies” i.e Apple, BlackBerry  as well as the Koreans – Samsung, LG – all interested in getting the technology for their new smartphones.

“There are several hundred pound gorillas in the phone industry, we’ve got the ‘fruity companies’ and the big Korean brands, and they’re all becoming interested [in our technology] as they don’t want to be second best in the market,” a company exec told TechRadar.

The company is seeking to create a waterproofing standard for manufacturers, which would boost take-up among phone companies keen to cut down on water damaged phone repairs.

“There’s a good chance it will become a standard and that will help us all,” the exec added.

P2i’s technology uses  a special pulsed ionized gas (plasma), to attach a nanometre-thin polymer layer over the product surface, when comes in contact with liquids form beads simply run off.

In other words, if you dunk your iPhone in a pint of water it will come away unscathed, if kitted out with this clever tech. 

Previous reports suggest the circuitry of Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and Apple’s iPhone 5 would be treated with a special nanocoating that repels water “a thousand times thinner than a human hair” delivered by a company called Liquipel, so it seems phone makers are shopping around.

Motorola already uses P2i’s  technology on their their current RAZR flagship.
