It’s Live! Harvey Norman Web Hard Sell (Delivery $6-200 Extra)

After famously insisting money could never be made from online, Gerry Harvey has finally succumbed, joined e-tailing ranks and launched a site, that sells. ‘Add to cart’ now appears on HarveyNorman.com.au goods like iPad 2 WiFi 16GB, selling for competitively priced $553 – $1 cheaper than yellow rivals JB Hi Fi.
However, the iPad 2 has no delivery options and must be picked up in-store only.

The bold move was made quietly today, with no official announcement just a bouncier, brighter and critically purchase options on Harvey’s products.

Previously, online users could browse through Harvey’s catalogue of products but had to head instore to purchase.

Delivery charges vary depending on location and Gerry Harvey is charging customers anything between $6.95 and $200 for delivery on web purchases.

But some smaller items like the iPad 2 can still only be picked up instore only.

However, if you want to buy larger items like a 22″ Grundig TV, delivery is readily available but the retailer charges $6.95 for delivery to any Sydney suburb.

And for a LG L 8.5kg Washing Machine delivery, on special offer, a hefty additional $49 delivery charge must be added on to the raw price of $598.

And it seems delivery charges are per item. So, if you want to buy a Panasonic TV and the LG washer together it will cost the bones of $100. And so on.

Payments can be made via PayPal or MasterCard or Visa credit card.

Other Harvey ‘hot deals’ include a Sony 46″ HD LCD TV for $999 and TomTom GPs for $147 but the move is an indication the troubled retailer is willing to get competive on price in a bid to get a grip on web sales.

Harvey Norman shares dropped 1.46% to $2.02 today after the news.
