LED TV Penetration To Hit 40% This Year

LED TV panels are in big demand and as brands like Sharp and Toshiba get set to enter the Australian market with a range of new models leading research Compay DisplaySearch that LED TV technology will reach 40 percent of the market in the peak fourth quarter this year and will exceed 50 percent in quarter two of 2011.

LCD TV panel makers are targeting aggressive growth for LED panels, with Samsung and Sharp aiming to ship more LED-based LCD TVs than CCFL panels in the fourth quarter of this year, states the report. They also predict that  prices will continue to drop despite a 66% fall in TV prices during the past four years.
Speaking at the NARTA Conference in Europe last week, GFK, Australia and New Zealand MD Gary Lamb told retailers that during the last four years, the average price of an LCD TV had fallen 66% to just over $1,000.
Large screen Plasma he said was already below the $1,000 barrier and was still falling.
David Hsieh, Large-Area LCD Research Team Leader and Vice President of the Greater China Market for DisplaySearch.  said “LCD TV panel prices fell quickly in Q3’10 due to oversupply and inventory adjustments downstream. However, LED panel prices are falling even faster than CCFL” he said
In an effort to meet demand DisplaySearch claimed that many system integrators or brands that have their own LCD module assemblies are  buying LCD panels from panel makers such as Chimei Innolux and AUO, and then assembling the LED backlight with their own design. The backlight, module, and system integration business models of leading manufacturers are helping to drive rapid LED penetration.
