More Than 200,000 Homes Added To NBN Rollout

NBN Co has today issued its quarterly construction update, advising that more than 200,000 homes and businesses have been added to the NBN’s rollout.A statement from NBN Co advises that communities spanning the country have been added to the rollout plan.

Communities added include parts of Margaret River and Kalgoorlie in Western Australia; Buderim and Springfield in Queensland; Port Macquarie, Ryde, North Sydney and North Manly in NSW; and Portsea and Beaconsfield in Victoria, NBN Co stated.

“The expansion of the rollout reflects the company’s new multi-technology approach and is an important step toward reaching our goal of connecting eight million premises to the NBN network by 2020,” Greg Adcock, NBN Co chief operating officer, commented.

“Today, around one in ten homes and businesses can connect to the NBN network. Our recently renegotiated construction contracts give us the confidence to schedule more than double that amount to start construction over the next 18 months.”

Last month, the NBN marked its one million milestone, reaching more than one million serviceable premises across the country.

The most recent NBN quarterly results, released in May, revealed premises with an active NBN connection stood at 389,000, with approximately 12,300 premises being made serviceable every week, with the NBN on target to reach its full-year goal of around 480,000 activations.
