Tech powerhouse has revamped its logo…for the first time in 25-years
The image makeover comes as the Redmond based giant looks to unleash Windows 8 OS, Windows Phone 8, new Xbox services and new Office, Jeff Hansen, Microsoft’s General Manager, Brand Strategy, said on a blog.
Hansen said the tech giant is “excited about the new logo, as it heralds in a new era in which we’re reimagining how our products can help people and businesses throughout the world.”
“The new Microsoft logo is inspired from Microsoft product design principles while drawing upon the heritage of our brand values, fonts and colors,” writes Hansen.

The logo has two components: the logotype and the symbol. For the logotype, Microsoft peruses the Segoe font – the same font it uses on products and marketing comms.
However, the revamped logo is still the square type formula jsut a straighened up version, as previous logo, so the change is not too dramatic.
“The symbol’s squares of color are intended to express the company’s diverse portfolio of products,” says Hansen.

The logo is to be used on all Microsoft branded products, Microsoft.com and Microsoft retail stores in the US.
And with the new Windows 8 “you will see a common look and feel across these products providing a familiar and seamless experience on PCs, phones, tablets and TVs.”
“This wave of new releases is not only a reimagining of our most popular products, but also represents a new era for Microsoft, so our logo should evolve to visually accentuate this new beginning.”
