New Sharp Quattron 4 Colour LCD TV A Contender For Best TV In The World

The new Sharp four colours Quattron LCD TV will go on sale in Australia for $7,999 and judging by what I saw in Japan today it could well be in the running for the best TV of the year award in the annual SmartHouse Best of the Best Awards.

During a demonstration at Sharp Offices in Japan, and using a magnifying glass, I was able to see up close the new dot format which Sharp claims delivers a superior picture to other LED and LCD TV’s currently on sale in Australia.

Mark Beard With New Sharp TV
And if Sharp Australia get their way the likes of Harvey Norman and JB Hi Fi could well be demonstrating the new 60 inch screen using an idea pinched from the  Yodobashi-Umeda department store in Osaka, where customers lined up to view 3D TVs via a pair of glasses attached to sliding pole right in front of the TV.
The in store merchandising idea, which Sharp Marketing Manager Mark Beard went back to photograph. allowed customers to quickly get a feel for what 3D TV was all about.
According to an English speaking assistant at the Osaka department store, 3D is not the draw card that retailers were hoping for in Japan where the Japanese are crazy for the latest in technology.
Sharp’s four-primary-colour technology is based on its proprietary UV2A technology. This technology adds Y (yellow) to the three RBG (red, blue, green) primary colours, which from the demonstration that I saw today, significantly improves the colour output, particularly with difficult colours like gold.

Sharp has also incorporated F.R.E.D which is Sharp’s proprietary high-speed LCD drive technology for side-mount Scanning LED Backlight.
This delivers a significant improvement in brightness of approximately 1.8 times greater than the conventional three-primary-colour LCD panels said Sharp executives in Osaka today.
