NSW drivers licence holders might soon be able to do away with their plastic photo-cards in favour of a digital copy. The State has already done away with physical car licence stickers.
The Government will task its Digital Council, chaired by customer service commissioner Mike Pratt, to develop a roadmap for taking all licences digital, if reelected, Finance and Services Minister Dominic Perrottet said.
Noting that customers are doing more transactions on smartphones, he said: “While the private sector has shifted to digital, the NSW Government must do the same.”
“There are currently over 123 different licence types and the Government issues over 2.8 million plastic cards each year, costing tens of millions of dollars in printing.”
Perrottet said the Government plans to use digital formats for a range of common licences, including NSW photo cards, boat and fishing licences – and eventually drivers’ licences.
