Samsung Galaxy S4 Benchmarked, 8 Cores Meet Full HD

Samsung’s Galaxy S4, the successor to a long line of market leading smartphones, is likely to perpetuate Samsung’s dominance if the rest of the phone is as inspired as the hardware AnTuTu benchmarks reveal

Consider this: Sony’s Xperia Z has a quad core processor, as does HTC’s new One flagship, LG’s Optimus G and pretty much every other vendor vying for a piece of the smartphone market. But Samsung’s Galaxy S IV, according to leaked AnTuTu benchmarks, will have two quad core processors.

The AnTuTu benchmarks indicate it will feature Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset, with the CPU running at 1.8GHz. The chipset works by pairing two quad-core processors together, alternating between four powerful Cortex-A15 cores and four economical Cortex-A7 cores. The efficient A7 cores will accommodate simpler tasks (such as music playback) to conserve battery life, while the A15 cores come off the bench to run intensive tasks (like gaming).

Other notable hardware is a PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU and 2GB of RAM.

AnTuTu’s testing also corroborates reports the Galaxy S4 will have a 4.99 inch Full HD screen with 440 pixels-per-inch. The screen will faithfully replay the Full HD videos captured by the rear camera and do the snapped 13MP photos justice.

Out of the box it’ll be running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Reports suggest Samsung has refined its eye tracking technology to the extent the S4 will scroll up or down a page based solely on your eye movements.
