Samsung: No Bada, Android Our Tabs Man, Galaxy III & 4G Coming

Galaxy maker has said its future tablets will be Android only, putting its self made Bada OS firmly in the shade.

This comes as Samsung looks to spread its wings further into the lucrative slate market launching its Honeycomb Galaxy Tabs on the new 8.9 inch screen size as well as 10.1 inch.

And although it will be some time before the Galaxy can even come near the Apple iPad 2, which currently dominates around 70 per cent of the tablet market globally, there is some good news for Samsung with new figures from Strategy Analytics suggesting it ranks top of the class for Android tabs.

And the new report also shows there is plenty of room for non-iPad makers to make an impact among consumers.

“Since nearly three-quarters of potential buyers in the UK and US are open to purchasing non-Apple tablets … there is still plenty of opportunity for Apple competitors to take a share of the tablet market,” its research states.

And good news for Motorola also who recently released its Atrix Honeycomb tablet here – one of the first to run off the long-awaited Android 3.0 operating system.

“Everybody is aware that Apple has done well, but there is every potential for other vendors, such as Samsung and Motorola, to catch the market leader,” said Peter King, Service Director, Strategy Analytics.

And the Korean giant is happy with its partnership with Google Android OS, which is now one of the most highly rated smartphone OS in the world, outdoing rivals Apple iOS and BlackBerry.

“Android is the fastest-growing platform and the market direction is headed toward Android so we’re riding the wave,” confirmed a senior Samsung exec this week.

It will also look to differentiate itself from Apple and other tablet makers by continuing to offer various sizes, so watch this space.

And Samsung’s mobile boss also revealed that a Galaxy S III and an ‘enhanced’ 4G smartphone are on the way in 2012.

“We’ll continue to work with Android on future tablets,” J.K. Shin, head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications, said in an interview this week. He also agreed that 4G is “inevitable” for tablets due to the larger amount of content consumed in such devices.

This comes just after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy II smartphone in Australia last week, which many feels outclasses the iPhone 4 by miles with its dual core processor, fast as lightening responsiveness and lightweight design.

And having seen the device for myself I tend to agree.

As do the millions of Koreans who bought the phone in the first month of sale, and sold 120,000 units in three days alone, according to Android Arena, making it the fastest selling phone in history in its home country.
