Samsung might just be the first manufacturer to update its existing smartphone range with ICS after its Galaxy SII update was confirmed by Samsung in Norway.
Samsung is one of the few companies who continue to support its existing range of smartphones with software updates. It was but a month ago the company announced its line-up of phones destined to receive an Ice Cream Sandwich update, but at the time no details regarding when the rollout will take place were revealed.
Although we might not know when the rollout will be ready for the entire Samsung line-up, Samsung’s Norway arm has confirmed the Galaxy SII will be getting its taste of Ice Cream Sandwich by the end of this quarter, which puts it around March. The update will see the already impressive SII benefit from an enhanced task manager, gallery, music player, browser and several other fine-tunes to every facet of the Gingerbread OS.
Leaked SII ROMs have already indicated Samsung engineers are making rapid progress, with GSMArena claiming each one is more enhanced and reliable than the next. Samsung’s Note, which has yet to be released in Australia and featured prominent appearances on last night’s AACTA’s awards, should get the update at the same time.
Compared to HTC and Sony, it looks like Samsung will be the first manufacturer to deliver ICS support to its existing phone range. It’s just another reason why the company’s smartphones are thriving worldwide.
