SkyRocket! Samsung Blasts Galaxy S II 4G

Ahead of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, Galaxy S II Skyrocket first debuted Hong Kong on Android 2.3.5, comes with new additions to the OS. Running Gingerbread 2.3.5, the 4.5″ Super AMOLED Plus (800×480 ) display comes with a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 8MP rear-facing camera with LED flash and 2MP front-facing camera, which will be handy when facial recognition comes into play later this year when Google serve up update to Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 software update.

The facial recognition unlock program will allow users to unlock their phone just by  holding it infront of their face rather than the usual swipe technology. There’s 1GB of RAM and storage inside the phone is 16GB.

The S II Skyrocket also features embedded NFC chip, so you can use the savvy device to shop, scan and pay for items and transfer information to other NFC ready devices.

But  there’s one other important difference with the Skyrocket. It is 4G LTE compatible, meaning much higher speeds for web and video downloads.

Currently Telstra is rolling out its 4G network while Optus promises to do so by next year as does Vodafone, although on higher 1800MHz spectrum frequencies than in the US.

So here’s hoping a Samsung make a Galaxy Skyrocket Australian version here, but no word from Telcos here yet.

Unleashed in US last week from AT&T, the new Galaxy S II is sold for $199-$250 and and comes in black only.

Just last Friday, Galaxy S II also emerged sporting a distinctly pink tinge.
