Sony Ericsson Android Phone Hits Oz

Sony Ericsson has confirmed that its first Android phone, the Xperia X10, will be coming to Australia.

The X10 sports a 4-inch WVGA screen that is scratch-resistant, runs on Google Android, comes with an 8-megapixel camera, and includes an 8GB microSD card. The company said that it has built a UX platform on top of the OS that claims to bring together a ‘rich graphical user interface, unrivalled service plug-ins and content from external partners’

It also comes with new signature applications, such as Timescape that brings together all mobile and online communication in chronological order and Mediascape that pulls online content as well as content stored on the handset onto the same screen.

Other features and capabilities include: Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Street View, 3D games, push email and calendar, video streaming and recording, album art, TrackID, and Bluetooth stereo with a 3.5mm audio jack.

The 8.1-megapixel camera has up to 16x digital zoom and comes with face recognition function that automatically files images according to date. In addition, Sony Ericsson claims that users can upload the photos directly to social network sites or simply click on a friend’s face to start communicating with them. Next time this friend is snapped in a shot, they will be automatically tagged using the face recognition software.

The XPERIA X10 will be available in black for $1099.
