A decade ago, the tech-scape was very different. Sony was the dominant technology company Samsung and Apple envied. And although they have products in most categories, their products would scarcely interact with one another. Worse yet, Sony failed to leverage the potential of its movies, music and games by not creating a unified front its products could access the content from.
By making Sony’s Entertainment Network available on a PC, Sony is creating a common playground that unites all of its compatible devices. It also helps their products take advantage of their content portfolio, which is an ace they have over rivals such as Samsung.
As a whole their devices work better together, allowing users to do more things with them; several Xperia smartphones are compatible with PlayStation certified games and the company’s Xperia tablets can manage content with compatible Sony TVs. This intercompatibility is what helped Apple overtake Sony as it became the most valuable company in the world.
Furthermore, the unifying Sony Entertainment Network is evidence the company’s divisions are working together and not independently.
