Taking down 77 million PlayStation Network accounts for four weeks was a “great experience” claims the President of Sony Network Entertainment during an interview in the USA.
Tim Schaaff, the president of Sony Network Entertainment said that since the hack attack on the Sony Network which was said to have poor security at the time, sales have been “better than ever”.
The president of Sony Network Entertainment called the four-week outage of the PlayStation Network a “great experience,” he said Wednesday.
Moreover, he said that sales have been “better than ever”.
Schaaff told VentureBeat executive editor Dylan Tweney “We’re back online, everything’s live again around the world, and the amazing thing through all of this is that the customers have all come back”
Schaaf said that the outage took 77 million PlayStation Network accounts off line for a period of four weeks, then an additional two weeks while the company brought its network online again. The outage cost Sony an estimated $171 million and the frustration of millions of customers.
“It’s dramatic but that the lesson we learned from this process is that there are some crazy things going on in the world right now, and in the beginning we were very concerned that we were the focal point for this attack, and it was all about Sony, and what was Sony doing,” Schaaff said. But over time, the company learned that a wide variety of sites had been hit, including government institutions and other companies, he said.
When asked what Sony learnt from the attack he said “It’s been a great experience,” “A great experience?” Tweney asked. “A great experience,” Schaaf returned. “I would not like to do it again. One time was enough. Great learning experience.”
