Telstra Price Rise Coming: Fixed-Line Price Increases To Apply From October

Telstra fixed-line customers are facing price rises come October, with the telco today announcing it will be raising prices on certain plans, along with the call rates on certain plans and bundles. In announcing the changes, Telstra stated the price rises reflect the continuing investment it is making in its network.

“We understand that there is never a good time to increase prices,” Jennifer Douglas, Telstra fixed voice and premium service director, wrote via a blog post. “We don’t make these decisions lightly.

“Our updated pricing reflects the ongoing investment in our network to provide voice services across Australia.”

From October 1, customers on the Telstra Home Phone Budget plan will receive an increase of $1 per month, with Telstra stating selected other home phone plans will increase by $2 per month.

The call connection fee on selected home and business phone plans and bundles will increase to 55 cents per call for timed national calls to fixed lines, calls to standard Australian mobiles and international calls (depending on the customer’s plan, up from either 49 cents or 50 cents), while the rate for calls to 13 numbers will increase from 35 cents to 40 cents per call.

From October 1, Telstra has advised that there will also be increases on the monthly access charges on a number of its BusinessLine PSTN and ISDN plans, along with changes to call charges and calling feature charges, with the majority of PSTN BusinessLine plans increasing by $2 per month.

Telstra CEO Andrew Penn last week outlined Telstra’s plans to up its investment in its mobile network to over $5 billion in the next three years.
