Huawei ACOMM Winner

Huawei Technologies has scored two titles at the ACOMMS Award, and have also jumped up in the fortune 500 up by 46 places.

Its first award was for Innovation in a Large Company, where it was recognised for its SingleRAN (Radio Access Network) technology. The technology enables a single base station with the ability to offer multiple mobile technologies like 2G, 3G, WiMAX and LTE (Long Term Evolution.) As a result, the innovation has reduced power consumption by 30 per cent.

Huawei also took the NSW State iAward for Communications for their E5 modem router. The E5 is a HSPA modem device that converts the signal into Wi-Fi for up to 5 devices. Huawei currently offers the E5 with Optus, Virgin and Vodafone, although it is more commonly referred to as a ‘pocket Wi-Fi.’

Peter Rossi, the company’s Chief Technology Officer of Huawei Australia was thrilled with the results.

“Just last month we marked a Huawei world-first by the establishment of our Australian Board of Directors, the latest step in Huawei’s localisation strategy, and we continue to work with all major Australian operators.”

The icing on Huawei’s cake was in its rise in the Fortune 500 list, climbing up from #397 in 2010 to #351 in 2011. Its annual revenues rose almost 25 per cent to over $25 Billion.

“2011 has already been an incredible year for Huawei Australia, and it is a great honour to add these three accolades to our list of successes in innovation,” said Rossi.

The results solidify Huawei’s position as one of China’s largest companies.
